Welcome to Austin Godber’s Linux Page
Linux Introduction
Linux is a UNIX-like operating system which is made available under the Gnu Public License. Actually its not as simple as that. Linux is technically the name of the kernel (or heart of the operating system). There are many different Linux Distributions, which are complete Operating System packages which will include various utilities, applications and servers. Each Distribution is slightly different with different philosophies and goals. Most of the Distributions include essentially the same software packages.
Some of the more popular Linux Distributions include:
- Debian
- SuSe
- Fedora
- RedHat
- Gentoo
- Knoppix
